What separates healthcare Cloud Leaders in security, resilience and AI

Cloud adoption continues to expand across healthcare, but only a subset of organizations identified in this research as healthcare Cloud Leaders are translating that progress into measurable gains in interoperability, cyber resilience and AI maturity.

This research, conducted by Coleman Parkes Research for Rackspace Technology, highlights where healthcare organizations are advancing and where persistent barriers are limiting impact. The findings reveal a clear divide between Cloud Leaders and the rest of the sector, particularly in areas that directly affect clinical operations, patient data protection and operational reliability.

Legacy infrastructure, workforce gaps and uneven security readiness continue to shape outcomes. Sixty-three percent of healthcare organizations still rely on legacy systems that constrain data integration and EHR interoperability. Confidence in cybersecurity remains low, even as sensitive workloads span multiple environments. At the same time, AI is delivering measurable value, yet only a small fraction of organizations have embedded it at scale.

Cloud Leaders demonstrate what is possible. Organizations with more mature cloud strategies report stronger security and resilience, greater progress modernizing EHR environments and more advanced AI adoption. The connection between cloud maturity and broader digital capability is increasingly clear.
